Molecular Biotechnology Engineer and PhD in Sciences with mention in Microbiology from the University of Chile with Postdoctorate at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany. At this institution he has also worked as a researcher and head of the biotechnology group laboratory. Professor Vera also participated as a postdoctoral researcher at the "Institut de Microbiologie de la Méditerranée (IMM), CNRS, Marseille, France", and then joined the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile as Assistant Professor at the Department of Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering of the School of Engineering and the Institute of Biological and Medical Engineering.
