Industrial Civil Engineer with a major in Chemical Engineering and a Master's degree from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile with a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Rutgers University in the United States.
Passionate about teaching, especially supporting students doing undergraduate and graduate research, Dr. Valenzuela is currently an associate professor at the School of Engineering and the Institute of Biological and Medical Engineering UC.
In the scientific field, besides being dedicated to the study of polymeric materials (as a general area), the professor is recognized for having founded and directed the spin off "FishExtend". A new technology to increase the shelf life of fresh fish using natural ingredients, which has been highly valued in the industry by obtaining several awards.
