- Summary
Dr. Tomás González Zarzar is Assistant Professor at the Department of Neurology and the Institute of Biological and Medical Engineering of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He obtained his professional degree of Biological Anthropologist (2013) at the University of Chile, and his MA (2016) and PhD (2020) in Biological Anthropology and Bioethics at Pennsylvania State University, USA. He is a postdoctoral fellow until the beginning of 2023 in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the same university.
His main lines of research are to elucidate the genetic, molecular and environmental factors in complex human diseases, such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, and their sex/gender differences. For this, he uses large databases in biology to model the effects and interactions between different biological levels such as the genome, metabolome and exposome. On the other hand, his research in bioethics focuses on genomic studies with Indigenous Peoples and environmental justice.
